MAG Review

A new FPS game has been released, and it has hit the 256 player per game mark, which required a very good technical team and dedicated servers to produce.

A Guide To Cryptic Crosswords

Cryptic crosswords are not just for very clever people with too much time on their hands, as they are stereotypically perceived. Anybody can do them; it’s all a matter of knowing what to look for and using logic to solve the clues. Other than this, all you need is a good vocabulary.

Cryptic clues are split into two parts:
1)      A definition of the answer.

Year 12 European Study Tour

On 5th February 2010, some year 12 students travelled to france, (supervised by Mr B.Mitchell, Mrs. Roberts, Miss Francis, Mr. Aplin, and Mr. Cross ) to attend a study conference in Paris.

The annual RSPB visit to the Wraysbury gravel pits in search of Goldeneye, Smew and Goosander has come again, with great success and even a few surprises thrown in as well.

Little Big Planet-Review

Here just a quick one for Agash: he wanted it done

ISSUE 04: DISTRICT 9 (2005)-15

“You are not welcome here.”

Certificate: 15 (Contains frequent strong language and strong, bloody violence)
Actors: Sharlto Copley, Jason Cope, Nathalie Boltt
Quote: Police Officer: “I mean, you can't say they don't look like that, that's what they look like, right? They look like prawns.”
Famous for...Peter Jackson, of Lord of the Rings fame, who offered to produce the film, and stump up the money to realise the concept of visionary director Neill Blomkamp.

GCSE Resistant Materials

Resistant Materials is part of the Design and Technology group of subjects. It's certainly more practical than simply design. However, don't think you can get away from having to draw the designs!

The lessons are generally split into two parts:

Design

Make

In design you'll draw down a couple of initial designs. These consist of just throwing around ideas and finding out about what might and might not work. You don't need to perfect them, they're just there to give you ideas.

Darksiders-Review

Wii Motion Plus

Wii Motion Plus
We’ve all seen and heard about the Wii; the revolutionary games console that gives us control over the game we’re playing as if we were actually there. But when it came out, we were given limited controls and most games just gave us pre-programmed movements to do to activate a certain action. Now, nearly three years since the Wii’s explosion into the games console market, Nintendo have released the Wii MotionPlus and the gameplay we were expecting from day one.

ISSUE 03: SAVING PRIVATE RYAN (1998)-15

“The mission is a man.”

Certificate: 15 (Contains occasional strong language and frequent bloody violence)

Actors: Tom Hanks, Edward Burns, Matt Damon, Tom Sizemore

Quote: Sergeant Horvath: “Someday we might look back on this and decide that saving Private Ryan was the one decent thing we were able to pull out of this whole god-awful mess.”

Famous for…The harrowing 30-minute war scene with which the film opens is without doubt one of the finest half-hours of film.

Cold weather at last...

Maybe the gale has been blowing at such a speed to make the tops of our chimneys quake with trepidation and uneasiness, maybe the frost has set so firm that all plant life has become temporarily captive and immobilized until further notice, maybe the snow has fallen in such a flurry to cause such a turmoil amongst the hectic commuters journeying to work each day, but do not be disheartened!

Films to watch Febraury/March

Here are the must-see films coming out this month, from fiction to thrillers, to entertain everyone in this month of love and passion:

The Full Feature: 3D TV

3D TVs have been a major hit at CES (Consumer Electronic Show - held anually at Las Vegas), but the main question is: will you be buying one?

Your initial instincts will probably be against the old red/cyan paper glasses, but at the end of this article you may have a changed opinion.

Quotes for a lifetime

School life can be challenging at times; whether coping with coursework or revising for exams. I believe motivation and determination can help drive us to our targets and goals in life. Here are some quotes which can help motivate and determine us to succeed and meet our targets:

'I thank whatever gods may be,
For my unconquerable soul,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.'
- Nelson Mandela

GCSE Art Subject Review

For those of you who would like to take up art as a GCSE option, here’s a brief outline of what the course entails:

GCSE German Subject Review

Ich mag Deutsch, weil es sehr interessant und einfach ist!

GCSE P.E subject review

The GCSE P.E. course can be completed as a Short Course, Full Course or a Double Award. The Short course would probably not be taken by anyone who has chosen P.E. as a GCSE subject, as you are expected to at least undergo the Full course if you wish to take P.E. GCSE. The Double Award has been made available to the current Year 10s, but may not be accessible to the next year group.

GCSE Humanity subject reviews

For those of you that are in year 9 or even in the years below, options may seem like a daunting choice. These will be the subjects that you carry on taking for 2 years and which you receive GCSE’s in. So all in all, they are quite an important choice and ones that should not be taken lightly. Here is a simple outline and my opinion on each of the humanity subjects:

GCSE French subject review

J’ai choisi d’étudier le Français parce que c’est une matière utile si vous voulez visiter d’autres pays.

Those still entrapped await evacuation

The UN secretary described it as the ‘most serious humanitarian crisis faced by the United Nations’ in decades. Nobody can imagine the sheer monstrosity of the earthquake that struck Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, in January 2010.
