Cold weather at last...

Maybe the gale has been blowing at such a speed to make the tops of our chimneys quake with trepidation and uneasiness, maybe the frost has set so firm that all plant life has become temporarily captive and immobilized until further notice, maybe the snow has fallen in such a flurry to cause such a turmoil amongst the hectic commuters journeying to work each day, but do not be disheartened! Before you know it, you’ll have to store away your scarves and gloves to make more room for your shorts and flip flops as summer steadily approaches us, so make the most of this sudden influx of sub-zero climatic contraptions while they linger around. Here are some ways you can do this:

Aurorae

Otherwise referred to as the northern and southern lights, the views at night are spectacular. As you observe the solar airstream of ions flowing like a current from the direction of our solar system’s main star, the Earth’s magnetic field entraps these particles, cutting their path to the pole. The current breaks into a convulsion and brews into a torrent of ions colliding with one another and releasing bounds of energy...ok, enough with the astronomy. Do not be put off though. This display of light illumination will envelop you. The Inuit people of Alaska depict them as ‘dancing spirits of the skies’ however it is fair to say that nothing can really describe this beautiful phenomena that seems too surreal to exist in our world.

Whistler

Whether you’re a real pro or just an enthusiastic beginner, Whistler will accommodate all your needs being home to snow, ski and slalom! Its two majestic mountains tower above the rest of the region. Whistler Blackcomb Skiing facilities offer a one mile vertical rise of corduroy, chutes and pillow lines. There is over 8000 acres of lush snow-set slopes- plenty to allow you to tumble, plunge and dive in the snow. However the biggest celebration is yet to come- the 2010 Winter Olympics. As a red wave of mittens welcomed the Olympic torch, everybody geared up ready to compete in Whistler’s biggest game so far. So why not tag along and support England as well as get a bite of the action as well!
