The Germans produced scintillating football, as they demolished 10-man Australia and get their World Cup 2010 campaign off in style. They are the first of the giants to have produced a quality performance and have set the benchmark for the competing teams.
They came to the World Cup without their injured talisman Michael Ballack, but four goals from four strikers has stamped out any doubts of the Germans struggling in the tournament. Whatever the Germans lack in defence, they surely make up in attack.
Most of the game was dominated by Germany, and the harsh sending off Tim Cahill proved to be too much for the Aussies to handle. Germany coach, Joachim Loew, gave the nod to Lukas Podolski and Miroslav Klose to start the game, as they continued their incredible scoring record for their country - their joint tally 88 in international football. Mesut Ozil was the key playmaker in the team and appears to have a bright future.
Although the Aussies created a few chances of their own, it was not enough to set back the Germans. The German’s fluid football should send warning signals to their rivals, as they have given the best performance in the World Cup, so far, by a distance. They sit very pretty at the top of Group D, although it is still early days. If they finish top and England finish second in Group C, the two countries would clash in the next round.
