Russian Terror as Terrorists Strike Again

On Monday 29th of March at around 4 o’clock, two female suicide bombers died each one at two different Moscow Metro train stations. Officials say that at least 35 people have been killed and more than 70 injured, including children. The first blast happened in Lubyanka station which is below the central FSB intelligence agency offices at 0356 (GMT) or 0756 (Local Time). Approximately 40 minutes later a second explosion ripped through a train waiting at Park Kultury station.

No Terrorist group have claimed responsible for the attacks but the FSB have said that they believe that a group from North Caucasus was responsible. In the past the FSB believe most attacks in Moscow have come from Islamic rebels fighting for Chechen independence.

In February the Chechen rebel leader Doku Umarov said, ‘the war will come to their [Russians'] homes’. The Russian president Dmitry Medvedev has called an emergency meeting with senior officials and has said that he vows to uphold a "policy of suppressing terror and the fight against terrorism".

"I was moving up on the escalator when I heard a loud bang, a blast. A door near the passage way arched, was ripped out and a cloud of dust came down on the escalator," a man named Alexei told Rossiya 24 TV channel. He also said, “People started running, panicking, falling on each other”.

The bomb blast in Park Kultury hit the back of the train at 0438 GMT just when people were getting on board.

"I was in the middle of the train when somewhere in the first or second carriage there was a loud blast. I felt the vibrations reverberate through my body," a man told the RIA news agency.
"People were yelling like hell," he added. "There was a lot of smoke and within about two minutes everything was covered in smoke."

The entre metro line has been closed and interior ministry troops have been deployed. Federal prosecutors said they had opened an investigation into "suspected acts of terrorism".
